Todd Bartusek has achieved success as one of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices’ top 100 real estate agents in the United States. An avid traveler, Todd Bartusek particularly enjoys family vacations to the Riviera Maya region of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
Extending approximately 80 kilometers, the Riviera Maya features a dry tropical landscape and is known for its combination of ancient cultural interest and scenic beauty. Its northernmost locale is Puerto Morelos, which continues to maintain its identity as a quiet fishing town, despite being only 12 miles from Cancun International Airport. A popular diving tour starting point, the community features an iconic lighthouse and a number of fishing boats on its beaches.
Puerto Morales’ National Marine Park, part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, features vibrant fish, sharks, and living coral reefs. Unlike its more developed urban neighbor, Cancun, Puerto Morelos maintains a rustic feel, with low-slung hotels and thatched cabanas under coconut trees.
Heading south, the town of Playa Del Carmen, a well-established Euro-centric resort area, features shopping options that range from local crafts to high-end designers. Many tourists stay here and take day trips to nature-filled destinations farther south. These include Tulum, which features extensive coastal Mayan ruins, and Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, which encompasses 1.3 million acres of pristine marsh, swamp, and forestland. Wildlife ranges from crocodiles to jaguar, as well as a wide variety of migrating birds and waterfowl.
